2 Timothy 3:16-17

16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

These passages are rich as they proclaim the authority of scripture and the fact that it is actually the equivalent of the spoken words of God in written form. It is truth for it is the word of God. And how can we use God’s Word? We find it useful in “teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness”. That’s right, it is a tool for knowing God’s will, identifying when we are out of his will, showing us how to get back into his will, and exercising us so that we will then remain in his will. What is the focus of this training? Righteousness. God’s word is a schoolmaster that is used to bring us into right-standing with the Almighty God so that we may be useful to him. It is the person who daily uses (applies) God’s word of truth and submits to its authority who will then be equipped for kingdom purposes and every good work. Do you want to be used by God? Do you want to be useful to the kingdom? Do you want to fulfill the purpose that God has for you? Then get in his word and welcome the rebuking and the correcting. Respond to the teaching and training for it is this process that refines us, purifies us and readies us to do the will of our Almighty Heavenly Father.
